    sunday, 27th DEcember 2020

Today, following our return 14 Sundays ago, we continue to worship in the sanctuary at Priesthill Road at 11.00am.

Week beginning: Sunday 27th December 2020

Dear friends,

We hope you had a very peaceful and happy time on Christmas Day, no matter how you were celebrating the birth of Jesus.

The Sunday School children provided us with a unique telling of the story in our online Christmas Eve service and it was simply wonderful to see them again after all this time.  Thank you to Kirsteen for the tremendous amount of work she did co-ordinating all the participants and thank you to the children who made us laugh out loud one minute then feel rather emotional the next!

Many of you will have realised there were enormous problems – yet again – with getting the service online.  YouTube nearly defeated us but thankfully, through a lot of hard work and sacrifice, Douglas was able to break through the issues and we were able to enjoy a colourful and uplifting time of worship.

Thanks also to Kirsty MacLaren for her beautiful version of ‘Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire’ a favourite winter classic!

The Freewill Offering Envelopes and Gift Aid Envelopes (formerly known as the Deed of Covenant Envelopes) for the new year are available on the table at the back of the sanctuary. If you would like to begin using FWO or Gift Aid envelopes for the first time, please speak to Jess Mitchell or Douglas MacLaren respectively.

Many thanks if you have already opted to give your tithes and offerings by Standing Order.  For those who would like to consider this method of giving, please contact Jess or Douglas.

Although we are now back in Tier 4 of lockdown, please note that it is our full intention to continue meeting together for worship in the Sanctuary at Priesthill Road every Sunday morning at 11am. The services will be made available via YouTube, and the Church Website during the week, with notice of when it is uploaded on our Church Facebook page.  Please, if you haven’t already done so, subscribe to our YouTube channel and you will be alerted when the service is available to view.

The Rev. Colin Brown, minister at Darnley United Free Church, is due to retire in early 2021 after 41 years’ ministry in Darnley. Over the next few weeks we will be inviting members of the congregation to make a donation towards a gift which we will present to him before he takes his leave of us.

In this our last online newsletter of 2020 may we wish you all a very safe and blessed New Year.  It has been the strangest of times for us all and, as we miss worshipping and having fellowship together, whether we are grieving, concerned about the future or feeling lonely, let us remember the promises of God that He will never leave us or forsake us and He calls us to cast our cares on Him.

......and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. (Hebrews 12 1-3)

Although there is so much difficulty and anxiety at this time we take the time to mark the times of celebration in the lives of our church family members.

Congratulations to Sadie Duncan who celebrated her birthday on Christmas Eve, Thursday, 24th December
