    sunday, 20th DEcember 2020

Today, following our return thirteen Sundays ago, we continue to worship in the sanctuary at Priesthill Road at 11.00am.

Week beginning: Sunday 20th December 2020

Dear friends,

We start our newsletter this week with some happy news!

Douglas MacLaren has now successfully completed his four years of Readership studies at Aberdeen University and has been granted a Certificate in Religious Studies. Congratulations, Douglas!

This year there will be one service on Christmas Eve, Thursday 24th December at 7pm.  There will be no gathering in the Sanctuary; rather a pre-recorded service will be made available via YouTube, the Church Website and Facebook.  Both Kirsteen and Naomi are organising a Nativity play with the children, which will be a delightful addition to the service.  Please continue to pray for Naomi and Kirsteen as they continue to support the children, young people and families of the Parish.

There is no service on Christmas Day and we pray that you will have a safe but blessed time however you are celebrating.

Next week – Sunday 27th December – we will be having our Sunday service at the normal time.  This will be an informal time of worship as we celebrate the third day of Christmas. Normally you are asked to bring to the service a gift that you received at Christmas which you are then invited to bring to the front. We then seek to draw out a spiritual truth or teaching from the gift that you bring. Because of the Covid restrictions we will not be able to do that this Christmas. So, instead, you are invited to email a photo of a Christmas gift you received to Douglas Nicol or Kirsteen Marshall and it can then be shown on the screen during the service.

As we have done in the last few years, this year we are displaying the Alternative Christmas Card in Priesthill Road as an opportunity for us to send Christmas greetings to one another and at the same time raise money for some of the poorest people in the world. This year, as last year, we will be giving the money we raise to the international charity Oxfam.

Douglas and Katherine Nicol wish to thank everyone for their Christmas Cards and kind wishes for the festive season.

The Rev. Colin Brown, minister at Darnley United Free Church, is due to retire in early 2021 after 41 years’ ministry in Darnley. Over the next few weeks we will be inviting members of the congregation to make a donation towards a gift which we will present to him before he takes his leave of us.
